July Bulletin 2011

A new Rotary and Rotaract year has begun!  A lot can happen in a year, I wasn’t even a member this time last year and now I have the honour of being president of Camberley Rotaract for the coming year.  Nearly all positions within Rotaract have changed, with some members taking on new roles and others like myself taking on a role for the first time.

President – Matthew O’Sullivan

Vice President – Mike Ziedins

Secretary – Rachel Kulsdom

Treasurer – Chris Ankers

Community – Jenny Lee

Sports & Social – Mike Ziedins

International – Sarah Huson

June was another manic month with many events keeping us all busy; a trip to Royal Ascot, an excellent celebration of an ex member’s 40th, community events helping with the talking newspapers and Donkey Derby, a trip to the Pirbright scarecrow festival and a presidential handover.  I know that the Rotary vs Rotaract Petanque evening will have happened and even though I don’t know the result because I am writing this before the event, I hope that Rotary lost gracefully!

We will start the new Rotaract year running so to speak with a busy second weekend in July helping Farnborough Rotary support their Music in the Park event.  From what I have been told, this event is a major fund raiser for the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and the opportunity to help this worthy cause will be taken up by many of our members, I’ve no doubt.  The following day we will be sharing Camberley Rotary’s stand at the Frimley Green carnival with our Nice and Naff stand;  a big thanks to Camberley Rotary as this means we don’t need to hire a pitch ourselves.  Other events penned into the calendar for July include a games evening, a trip to the Sweeney Todd Pie Shop to celebrate European Pie day and the usual Wednesday night meetings and pub trips.

In Junes bulletin, Toria, had the sad job of letting everyone know that Gabrielle Nutt was leaving us for pastures new (or is that shires new), in New Zealand. This month I have the sad news to report that Sylvia Crossley, a popular Camberley Rotaract associate and ex Rotaract member of Hart & Rushmoor and Aldershot has moved to Washington DC.  We all wish Sylvia good luck for the future and of course invite her to visit when she pops across the pond!

I, and all members of Rotaract are looking forward to a fun and productive year and we look forward as always to working with all our ex-Rotaract and associate Rotaract friends and of course, our sponsor, Camberley Rotary.
